Angry Farmers Threatens ‘NAKED’ Demonstration Over Destruction Of Their Farms

Some aggrieved large crops farmers have threatened unstoppable naked demonstration over a section of mixed crop farms in Amoawi in the Offinso South as their farms are being destroyed by a contracter using an excavator.

Some of the desperate farmers lamented to Offinso based Time Fm news that, the loss of their hundreds and thousands of acres worth of Beans, Pawpaws, Plantains, Oranges, Palm tress, cassavas and other crops and vegetables have been destroyed to construct Estate houses instead by the Offinso Paramount chief, Nana Wiafe Akenteng lll according the residents.

Nana Agyemang, one of the affected farmers who has worked on the land for the past 12 years told Asonaba Owusu Aduomi that his financial backbone for his agricultural business are acquired through banks loans and the destruction could lead to his prosecution if he fails to return the loan on time.

The affected farmers in Amoawi numbering over thirty (30) including old aged women have therefore decided to demonstrate ‘naked’ if the Offinso Paramount Chief does not halt and compensate to help them reclaim their losses.

Speaking to the assembly member for Amoawi electoral area, Hon Patience Owusu Amponsah on Saturday, she said, they had information about the reconstruction of their deplorable roads by the Paramount chief but on Saturday turns otherwise, degrading of farms to pave way for the establishment of estate as she is being told by the residents.

The honourable assembly member said, the Paramount Chief, Nana Wiafe Akenteng has urgently called the halt of the exercise for round table peaceful resolution on October, 29, and if possible, compensate the farmers following her plea to the chief.

Meanwhile, the chief of Amoawi Nana Barffi, speaking on the issue on off the record, has debunked the claims of masterminding and aiding the contractor to degrade the farms of the farmers.
